Immigration Policy
The way the government controls the laws and regulations on who gets to come and settle in Canada
Demographic
A particular section of the population
Labour Force
All the members of a particular group or population who are able to work
Refugee
A person who’s been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or a natural disaster
Accord
To give or grant someone power, status, etc
Head Tax
A tax that Chinese people had to pay when coming to Canada because they were Chinese
Push/Pull Factors
Push: Reasons for someone to leave their country
Pull: Reasons for someone to go to another country
Heritage
Property that is or may be inherited by someone
Generation
All the people born and living around the same time, collectively
Sanctuary
A place of refuge or safety
Economic Immigrant
A person who leaves their country purely for economic reasons, not for any refugee reasons.
Humanitarian/ Compassion Immigration
Makes it more accessible for immigrants to move countries who wouldn’t qualify otherwise.
