Imaging and Endoscopies Flashcards
Photographic procedure in which a specially designed 35-mm camera is used to image the entire cervix to produce a slide called a cervigram. It is used to detect early CIN or invasive cervical cancer. Can be combined with colposcopy or can be done independently.
Cervicography
X-ray procedure in which contrast medium is used to image the uterus and fallopian tubes.
Hysterosalpingography
Imaging technique for the early detection of breast cancer. The record produced is called mammogram.
Mammography
Measurement of the birth canal. Types of pelvimetry include clinical and x-ray, although x-ray pelvimetry is not commonly done.
Pelvimetry
Use of high-frequency sound waves to image the pelvic area (pelvic sonography) and the uterus (sonohysterography). Transvaginal sonography of the pelvic cavity is obtained through the use of a probe introduced into the vagina.
Sonography
Endoscopic procedure used for a cervical/vaginal biopsy. The instrument used is called a colposcope
Colposcopy
Endoscopic procedure used for biopsy of Douglas cul-de-sac. The instrument used is called a culdoscope
Culdoscopy
Endoscopic procedure used for a myomectomy (fibroid removal) or polypectomy (polyp removal). The instrument used is called a hysteroscope.
Hysteroscopy
Endoscopic procedure for removing lesions (lysis) or performing a hysterectomy or an ovarian biopsy. The instrument used is called a laparoscope.
