Imaging Flashcards
1
Q
What are the types of resonance for MRI
A
White:Hyperresonant
Black:Hyporesonant
2
Q
How to describe the different forms of imaging
A
MRI:Resonance
CT:Density
X-Ray:Opacity
Ultrasound:Echoic
3
Q
Pros and Cons of Ultrasound
A
Pros
- Bedside portable
- No Radiation: Can use for pregancy
- High specificity/sensitivity for condtions like cholelithiasis
- Low cost
Cons
- Operator dependent
- Not as sensitive for obscured structures eg duodenum
4
Q
Pros and Cons of CT
A
Pros
- 3D spatial imaging
- Good visualization
- Diagnostic of conditions with contrast eg HCC + faster/cheaper than MRI
Cons
- Radiation
- More expensive than ultrasound
- Poor differentiation of soft tissue than MRI
5
Q
Pros and Cons of MRI
A
Pros:
- Good soft tissue differentiation
- 3D spatial views
- No radiation
Cons:
- Slow
- Expensive
6
Q
Mimickers of stroke
A
- Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
- Epidural/Subdural Hemorrhage
- Subarachnoid Hemorrhage from ruptured aneurysm
- Parenchymal bleeds
- Vascular malformations
- Tumours
7
Q
CT early signs of Acute MCA Infarct
A
- Dense MCA
- Loss of insular ribbon
- Hypodensity of tissue(becomes darker)
- Sulcal effacement/blurring
- Lentiform nucleus obscuration
