images VI Flashcards

Early anterior ischemic optic neuropathy
no venous stasis, no bulging

Papilledema from increased intracranial pressure…compression of optic nerve…venous stasis and decreased axoplasmic transport

The optic nerve in anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) and papilledema
in papilledema the optic nerve is swollen, and the retina is displaced laterally.

Inner tarsal plate (p)
meibomian glands (g)
middle muscle layer (m)
surface epithelium (e)

Meibomian gland lipid content (sebum) spills out of the acini at the mucocutaneous lid junction to coat the ocular surface. The lipid then becomes the smooth film meibum on the surface

Stye
Acute inflammation involving gland of Zeis and/or orifice of meibomian gland….Staph…usually clears in 7 days

Very rare
Formed congenitally

pagetoid spread

Pinguecula
Conjunctival equivalent of Solar Elastosis of skin

Conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma

Pterygium
CT growth that migrates to corneum

Conjunctival Melanoma
commonly seen at limbus

Herpes Simplex Keratitis
Painful large, irregular shaped lesions, with vascular engorgement
Can spread to ant chamber and may need corneal transplant

Large paracentral herpes simplex virus dendritic ulcer.

Munson’s sign
When patient looks down, the cones in each eye causes the lower lids to bulge

Dry…10xs more common…no Tx

Wet…Tx with injection of VEGF antagonists into the vitreous of affected eye
