Images and sound Flashcards
What is the colour depth?
The number of bits per pixel
What does the colour depth determine?
The range of colours
How do you work out the number of colours
2^n
What is the resolution?
The density of pixels in the image, or the number of pixels per inch
What affects the file size of an image?
The colour depth and the resolution
What causes the file size of an image to increase?
Increased colour depth and increased resolution
What is the metadata?
The extra data stored alongside image files
What are examples of metadata?
file type date created author the height and width of the image - this defines how many rows and columns the pixels are to be arranged in the resolution the colour depth
What would happen if there was no metadata?
the image data would not be correctly interpreted, meaning the image could not be correctly displayed.
What is the sample rate?
The number of samples recorded in a given period of time
What is the sample rate measured in?
Hertz
What is the bit depth in reference to sound?
The number of bits used to record each sample
What is the bit rate?
a measure of how much data is processed for each second of sound
How do you calculate the bit rate?
sample rate X bit depth
The higher the bit depth…
the higher the quality of the sound and the larger the file size
