Image Evaluation Flashcards
What are x rays
Silhouettes/densities which are representations of structures the X-ray beam had passed through
What is darkness/density determined by
The attenuation coefficient (thickness and atomic number) of structures the x-ray beam passed through
Attenuation
Primary radiation is changed or absorbed as it travels through patient
Radiolucent
Material that allows x-ray photons to pass through easily (air)
Radiopaque
Material that does not allow x- ray photons to pass through easily (bone)
Image density
Amount of blackening within image
Physical density
Density of structure. Bone has high density when compared with soft tissue
Fracture density wise e.g wrist fracture
Bone around fracture appear more white
= bone fragments overlapped= increases attenuation
