ILS 2 Skeletal System Flashcards
Tendon
a fibrous connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone
Ligament
A fibrous connective tissue that attaches bone to bone
Skin ligaments
small fibrous bands, extend through the subcutaneous tissue and attach the deep surface of dermis to underlying deep fascia
Tendinitis
Occurs in response to acute irritation/ inflammation resulting from microtears
Triggered by over activity and most commonly affects the elbow, knee shoulder, hip, Achilles tendon and base of the thumb
Tendinosis/ Tendinopathy
Repeated mechanical loading (overuse) resulting in chronic tendon pain and loss of function
Chronic degenerative process with minimal inflammation due to failed healing response
Stages of Healing bone fractures
- A hematoma forms
- Fibrocartilaginous callus forms
- Bony callus forms
- Bone remodeling occurs
