What are Gateway drugs?
Gateway drugs are substances that are believed to lead to the use of harder and more dangerous drugs. The idea behind the term “gateway drug” is that using one drug can open the door to using other drugs, creating a progression of drug use that can eventually lead to addiction. The most commonly identified gateway drugs are tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana.
What are Depressants?
Depressants are drugs that slow down a person’s Central Nervous System, and are commonly prescribed to patients with unstable emotional and mental health to relax the muscles and nerves of the patient, but when taken inappropriately or consumed beyond prescribed medication, it can impede a person’s ability to comprehend and respond. Alcohol is a depressant, but should not be used as a form of treatment.
What are Stimulants?
Stimulants speed up a person’s central nervous system activities, boosting energy levels, but can lead to fatigue and depression. Large doses of these drugs can lead to anxiety, panic, aggression, and paranoia.
What are Narcotics?
Narcotics are highly addictive class of drugs and can lead to physical and psychological effects, as well as social, emotional, and financial problems.
What are Hallucinogens ?
Hallucinogens are a type of drug that changes a person’s perception of reality because it makes a person see, hear, and feel things that aren’t real, not in the time being, or distort reality and facts.
What are the two types of Hallucinogens?
Two types of Hallucinogens are; hallucinogens that are manufactured or hallucinogens that are naturally occurring compounds found on plants. The manufactured drugs are called plants, which are called ayahuasca, which is made into a tea, mescaline found in peyote cactus, psilocybin found in magic mushrooms. Now, there is also a hallucinogen, namely ketamine that is used by medical practitioners as an anaesthesia.
What are Inhalants?
Inhalants are breathable substances that produce mind alerting effects, similar to alcohol intoxication. It is found in ordinary household chemical products and anesthetics.Examples of household products used as inhalants are acetone, rugby or solvents, spray
paints, cleaning fuels and air conditioner fluids (Freon).
What are the Six classifications of prohibited drugs?
