How to Introduce a Character
Through specific and significant detail.
Description (Narrative Technique)
Effective for showing the significance of a an event or experience. Sensory details like smell that evokes textures.
Anaphora
Repetition of the first word or words of a sentence.
Reciprocal Teaching
Instructional activity in which students become the teacher in small-group reading sessions. Each student assumes a role (clarifier, summarizer, questioner, and predictor).
Clarifier’s Role in Reciprocal teaching
To address confusions and questions posed by the questioner. Help self-evaluate their comprehension.
Scaffolding
“I do. We do. You do.”The teacher shows how something is done, then the class practices together and, finally, students work individually.
Turn & Talk
Oral language scaffolding strategy that enables all students to articulate ideas and share them in a large group/low-risk setting. Two students face each other, one talks while the other listens and then switch roles.
