Anaphora
Repetition of the same word/expression at the beginning of lines
Epiphora
Repetition at the end of lines
Anadiplosis
Word/expression concluding one line, begins the next
Chiasmus
Words set in a mirroring, inverted pattern
Antimetabole
Form of chiasmus in which words are repeated in inverse grammatical order
Antithesis
Contrast in words/ideas, which are balanced against eo in parallel structures
Paradox
Statement that appears contradictory/absurd yet contains an underlying truth
Oxymoron
Juxtaposition of two contradictory terms
Simple sentences
Consists of one main clause
Compound sentences
Several co-ordinated main clauses linked by and or etc
Complex sentences
One main clause and one or several subordinate or dependant clauses
Existential sentences
Starts with «there is» ; existence
Parataxis (paratactic sentences)
Linked by juxtaposition or mere coordination; reader must supply link b/w the sentences
Hypotaxis (hypotactical sentences)
Contrary to parataxis; resorts (heavily) to subordination or coordination
Ellipsis
Omission of one or more words in a sentence
