II.E. Bajamas Content Creation Program Flashcards
What are the fundamentals of smartphone filmmaking?
- Filmmaking basics.
- Pro camera apps.
- Proper settings.
- Lighting.
- Cinematic composition.
- Movements.
- Quality audio.
In basic fundamentals, what should be considered?
- Storytelling.
- Lighting.
- Composition or framing.
What are the best camera apps?
Filmic Pro.
In settings, what are the aspects that should be optimized?
a. Resolution.
b. Frame rate.
c. Shutter speed.
d. ISO
e. White light.
How to optimize lighting?
- Use soft as against hard light.
- Create soft light with a flashlight and white cloth as diffuser.
- Dawn and dusk are the best times to natural light. High noon is the worst.
- Use backlighting whether natural or artificial.
- “Against the light” rule can be used for shadows and artistic effects.
How to do cinematic composition?
- Create depth by framing the foreground, subject, and background.
- Frame the subject artistically whether asymmetrical or symmetrical.
- Spice things up with animation, slow motion, still-frame, drone shots, etc.
- Take b-rolls.
- Avoid eye level shots–use low or high ones.
- Link the shots i.e., same foreground, background, or theme.
How to achieve excellent audio quality?
Avoid shotgun mike, it is ineffective when the subject is not near enough. Use a lapel mic or improvise with a cellphone mic near the subject and export the sound.
Different shots according to size, angle, and movement?
A. Size
Extreme wide to
Extreme close up
B. Angles

Extreme low.
Over the shoulder shot
Dutch angle
C. Movement
Zoom
360 degree
Pan and tilt
Random
Dolly or crane
Point of view
Compound
Single-take shot (Combination of sizes, angles, and movements–the most difficult shot to execute.)
How to set my channels and films apart from the crowd of content creators?
Misce en scene. I should use its various elements e.g., wardrobe in Lourd’s Escolta episode; Casey’s props i.e., skateboard plus shades; makeup say, skull or vampire during Halloween; background ambience, etc.; storytelling; cinematography; etc.
How should I create a cinematic but quick film opening scene?
Use Lourd’s signature opening scene: res media or montage; channel ID; and Act 1.
What is the outline of the 3-act structure?
The outline parallels The Hero’s Journey.
A. First Act
1. The hook. This is the call to adventure. This can be opened with a question as to what the adventure is all about. Medias res is a good tool here.
2. Inciting event. This incorporates the refusal of the call or supernatural help. The hero feels inadequate to solve the problem.
B. Second Act
3. First plot point. This is crossing the threshold or point of no return e.g., Sam’s pause at the boundary of The Shire. The hero now accepts the responsibility of rising up to the challenge.
4. First pinch point. This corresponds to the belly of the whale and the road of trials.
5. Midpoint a.k.a., second plot point. The meeting with the goddess, falls on this outline.
6. Second pitch point. This is either the temptation or atonement with the father. Like (4), this is a low point for the hero.
C. Third Act
7. Third plot point. The apotheosis and the ultimate boon happen here. These are replete with struggles against the antagonists.
8. Climax. This begins with a low point, either the refusal of return or magic flight. The situation hangs in a balance and the scale is tipped when the rescue from without takes place. Then poetic justice is achieved with the return to the threshold, mastery of two worlds, and freedom to live. LOTR and maybe The Dark Knight trilogies have multiple climaxes.
