17
Q

What are the steps involved in accessing and preparing data for purposes of Audit Data Analytics.

A
  1. Extract the data from information system
  2. Transform the data into a usable format
  3. Load the data into analysis software
18
Q

What are the steps in audit data analytics (ADA)?

A
  1. Plan the ADA
  2. Access and prepare the data for the ADA
  3. Consider the relevance and reliability of the data used
  4. Perform the ADA
  5. Evaluate the results
19
Q

Why would an auditor review the reconciliation of payroll tax forms?

A

To see if there are potential liabilities for unpaid payroll taxes. Unrecorded liabilities is a concern in an audit. When reviewing the payroll reconciliation, the auditor is reviewing the report of withheld taxes to the taxes remitted to uncover any unrecorded/unpaid tax liabilities

20
Q

When the group auditor assumes responsibility for the group audit and rely on work by the component auditor, what do they do and not do?

A

The group auditor reviews the component auditor’s work and they do NOT refer to the component auditor in the audit report

21
Q

Is there a risk of RMM if management argues with the auditor about accounting matters?

A

Yes because it may indicate an organizational culture that supports aggressive accounting and even a willingness to do fraudulent financial reporting

22
Q

If the group auditor is going to reference the component auditor, what will they not do?

A

The group auditor will not review the component auditor’s work papers, visit the component auditor or determine if the component auditor understands internal control. The group auditor is not assuming responsibility for the component auditor’s work.

22
Q

What will the group auditor do if they plan on referencing a component auditor?

A

They will make inquiries about the component auditor’s professional reputation and independence of the component auditor.

23
Q

Can an auditor use an internal auditor to conduct tests of controls?

A

Yes. Because internal audit reviews of internal controls can assist in planning. What the internal auditor cannot do, is audit something that has a significant impact on the financial statements.

24
Why would an auditor do a retrospective review of management's estimates from a prior year?
To determine if there was a bias. Bias will be revealed if the estimation process has changed or the amounts different significantly without explanation.
25
What is a commonality between all audits of federal financial assistance recipients?
The auditor is required to document their understanding of internal control which has been established to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
26
What is a measurement scale?
A measurement scale is described with four characteristics: identity, magnitude, intervals and absolute zero.
27
What scale uses all four characteristics of a measurement scale?
Ratio scale.
28
What is a good investment hedge against inflation in the short-term vs. the long term?
In the short term, investing in assets like precious metals is a good hedge b/c the value is based on current market conditions and precious metals value will always increase at a higher rate than the inflation rate. In the long term, investing in the stock market is a better investment to protect against inflation because in the long term the stock market is a better investment to protect against inflation. Bonds are not a good investment for inflation because bonds return a fixed rate that doesn't change with market conditions. This is only a good investment if I want stable returns regardless of how the economy is doing.
29
What is price elasticity?
It measures the sensitivity of quantity demanded to price changes. If something is inelastic it means there are few alternatives and an increase in price will result in a decrease in demand but not as much as if the demand was elastic. In numerical terms, inelasticity is <1, elasticity is >1 where price elasticity of demand is measured by dividing the percentage change in quantity demanded over the percentage change in price. There could also be a produce that has unitary elasticity. This means that the price increase results in a proportional decrease in supply demanded.
30
Why would the trade deficit increase when the economy has rapid GDP growth after a prolonged recession?
Trade deficit occurs when imports exceed exports. In an economy with rapid GDP growth imports will grow because of local economy wages going up. However, exports are based on foreign economy and our local economy doing well will have no basis on exports which is determined by foreign income so there will be a growing trade deficit.
31
What is stagflation?
High unemployment and high inflation
32
What is a move ticket?
Identifies parts needs to be transferred between manufacturing units.
33
What is channel stuffing?
Shipping goods to customers in excess of their needs to increase amounts reported as revenues
