The poor people, specifically the industrial poor in factories and workhouses

they emerge from the robes of the ghost which suggests the poor have been forgotten, they are hidden away (neglected)

what does wretched mean?
a unhappy or unfortunate state, or used to express anger or annoyance
what does abject mean?
very unpleasant and degrading, no pride or dignity

repulsive, unwanted
what does ragged mean?
not controlled/ suffering from exhaustion and stress
what does wolfish mean?
animalistic qualities - anthropomorphism - they are are also treated like animals
what is the biblical link of want?
links to eve, her want and desire caused the punishment of mankind
how does ignorance link to dickens issues with the poor?
the wealthy people ignored the poor
