What is ideology?
Ideology is a organized mixture of factual and moral beliefs and set of ideas that is accepted by a large number of people. Provides a framework that indicates how the political world ought to be organized.
What is the origin for ideology?
Ideology originated during the french revolution (1789). Traditional monarchists on the right, radical populist on the left.
How does revolution influence ideology?
Revolution inspires 3 ideologies. Liberalism, nationalism and conservatism. Reaction of the elites is to defend status quo (conservatism).
Name the three ways to determine where on the ideology spectrum someone is.
- Orientation to change
- Orientation to equality
- Orientation to state intervention or control
What is nationalism?
AKA Patriotism, transcends other ideologies because support for a nation is on a different spectrum. Usually pro more state control. Bloc Quebecquois is an example.
