Identifying Non-metal Ions Flashcards

1
Q

How do you test for a carbonate ion?

A
  1. Add dilute acid to the sample
  2. The acid will react to form carbon dioxide gas and fizzing
  3. Bubble the gas through limewater and if it goes cloudy then it is carbon dioxide
