1
Q

Which muscle cell contains electrical synapses?

A

Cardiac and Smooth muscle cells have gap junctions who spread their depolarization.

Q

Which muscle group uses chemical synapses?

A

Skeletal muscles have chemical synapses, here the skeletal muscle fiber is the post synaptic cell and there is a synaptic cleft.

Q

State the differences between the 3 types of muscles,
include location, function, NS control, initiation of contraction, cell structure, coordination of muscle contraction, contractile filaments and appearance.

A

Skeletal: attached to bones, moves the skeletal, under somatic control (voluntary movements), membrane depolarization to initiate contraction, they are large, multinucleated from cells fusing together, one neuron depolarizes many fibers, Contractile filaments are actin and myosin, appearance is straited.

Cardiac muscles are located at the heart, they generate heart contraction, under autonomic nervous control, membrane depolarization to initiate muscle contraction, they are small uninucleate cells and have branched fibers, have gap junctions to spread depolarization to neighboring cells, use actin and myosin and are striated.

Smooth muscle: located in the internal organs and tubes, they move things in the internal organs and tubes, membrane depolarization is needed to initiate muscle contraction, under autonomic nervous control, are small, uninucleate cells, have gap junctions and motor units, uses actin and myosin and are NOT striated.
