Guidance on getting a description of a suspect
Be patient Do not prompt Describe in own words Obtain as much detail as possible Work head to toe
4 points of photograph identification
1- shown 12 photos including suspects
2- similar to suspect and of same age and appearance
3- have no marks which would allow witness to ID the accused photograph
4- witness left to make selection without help
Standard of a identity parade!!
The parade should be fair and be seen to be fair
Suspects rights in an identity parade
- asked to take part
- parade to be explained to them
- can refuse
- if arrested can be compelled to take place but may remove validity of parade (seen to be unfair)
Composition of an identity parade
No less than six and no more than 9 and only 1 suspect per parade
Conduct of a parade
Witness should be brought in individually and have no contact with any other witnesses,witness anonymity must be observed at all times
Scientific points of finger print evidence
- friction ridge skin is formed in the embryo
- arrangement of finger print ridges never changes until death or decomposition
- individual to each person
How Many stand Ins should there be in an identity Parade
Minimum of 6 Maximum of 9 Per one person
How Many Accused can be in 1 Identity parade
Maximum of 2 (1 Person extra must be added per 1 Accused)
How Should a group Identification be conducted
Be Placed in A vehicle seperate from other witnesses and in a place where more than the accused can walk past
