What happens when identifying a foal at birth?
Mares have been known to swap foals, so identification should be as possible after birth. An identification Certificate must be completed for the foal and the mare and a blood sample taken to identify the blood type. This applies to thoroughbred and other registered breeds. Foals when weaned may be branded.
