International Gothic
A Style from Northern Europe, from the late 14th and early 15th cent., featuring attenuated poses and sweeping curves in drapery, and elongated figures. This style is significant because it swept through northern Europe, and it’s a pre-renaisssance style that artists from everywhere picked up on.
Ex. Lorenzo Manaco’s Coronation of the Virgin, 1413, panel. Important because you see this change in style here.
Nicola Pisano
An artist active from 1258-78, a sculptural innovator from Pisa. His style works were considered to have classicizing qualities, like those of the classical Greece. He is significant becasue he was a spectacular sculpture and the greatest architect of his century. Having studies Roman corinthian capitols. Ex. Pisa Baptistry Pulpit 1260 Marble, its the best example because it shows how he must have studied classical style. Shows his ability to show close realism, ability to articulate space, it aslso shows his architectual talent.
Fresco Secco
A fresco painting style used fro colors that were not water soluble. In this process they would mix pigmets with water and egg yolk and apply it to wet plaster. This is important becasue its not permanent, it explains why so many frescos over time have been peeling.
Della Pittura
A method of creating an illusion of space becasue creating a composition. Brunelleschi is responsible for this method which he devised after losing the Bronze doors competition. This method allows the artist to capture a figure or subject in correct scale and get exact measurement of its various components. This is important because they is a method used to show correct perspective in Renaissance art.
