Q

Burn depth

A

Epidermal burns: erythematous, do not blister. Painful for 2-3 days.

Superficial partial burn: upper dermal layers -> fluid filled blisters. Underlying tissue is moist, pink, and painful. Blanches upon palpation. Heal in 3 weeks.

Deep partial burn: extend into the reticular dermis. Blister, pain, blanch, however underlying wound is pink/white mottled. Scar, may affect functionality. Heal in 9 weeks.

Full thickness burns: white-black, leathery in appearance with an eschar. Do not blanche and are insensate. W/o debridement heal by contracture or epithelialization from wound margin.
