  • when the store closes, the computer system automatically updates it’s record of the number of stock of every item in store
  • the SEC allows managers to get a real time stock picture and allows a manager to escalate stock deliveries

Just in time control systems

  • the ‘just in time’ system takes advantage of a stock information system and automatically orders more stock when it falls below a set level.
  • meaning the bare minimum of stock is ordered so the warehouse is not packed with un-necessary stock

Advantages and disadvantages of just in time stock systems

A

Adv:

  • money is saved: less warehouse spaces maintained and purchased + not ordering too much stock and paying for it
  • fewer staff needed to maintain warehouse
  • business is more aware and responsive to changes in supply and demand

Disadv:

  • if there is a disruption in the transport system, they will quickly run out of stock
  • sudden changes in patterns can mean they haven’t got the stock customers want
