Features of software
HATCHING/RENDERING
Definition: different finishes or materials can be displayed
Advantage: can do many ‘what if’ type investigations to explore the best finishes
Features of software
ZOOM
Definition: enhance parts of a drawing to make it bigger
Advantage: to produce work of more detail or add detailed design
Features of software
ROTATE
Definition: rotate in 3D across an X, Y, and Z axis
Advantage: able to see the design from all angles
Features of software
WALKTHROUGH
Definition: visit rooms etc in 2D
Advantage: allows spatial awareness of what the design looks like in relation to other features
Features of software
COSTING
Definition: produce estimate of cost of building materials
Advantage: automatic estimates are given and designer can investigate different options or work within a budget
Features of software
STRESS AND STRAIN
Definition: working out the weights materials can take
Advantage: avoids disasters later on when building as the designer should build well within the safety requirements
Features of software
WIRE DRAWINGS
Definition: see design without any finishes or solid form
Advantage: helps within perspective and working out stresses and strain areas
Vector drawings
- saved by a series of instructions
- have the ability to be changed at a later stage (more flexibility and easily amended)
Bitmap drawings
- the position and colour of pixels on screen
- don’t have the ability to be changed like vector drawings
