ICT Flashcards
Distinct functions in a home network.
Modem and router
Is a device that connects the home network to the internet service provider
Modem -demodulator
Are commonly used for cable television and broadband internet connections, using copper or aluminum conductors encased in insulating layers with metal shields.
Coaxial cables
transmit data using pulses of light through thin glass or plastic strands, offering high-speed data transfer and minimal signal loss, making them ideal for fast internet and long-distance communication.
Fiber optic cables
often known as Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat7, use twisted pairs of copper wires for local area network connections, providing a reliable and familiar solution for wired internet and local network setups.
Ethernet cables
is a device that connects various devices within a local network, allowing them to communicate with each other efficiently. It directs data traffic between devices like computers, printers, and more, helping them exchange information.
Switch
on the other hand, is a device that enables wireless devices like smartphones and laptops to connect to a wired network, usually via Wi-Fi. It acts as a bridge, granting wireless access to the network, making it handy for expanding internet coverage in a home or office.
Access point
is like a digital hub that hosts websites, stores files, and manages various tasks, ensuring that users can access and interact with data and services securely and efficiently.
Server
is responsible for sending the packets out onto the Internet.
IP
It detects lost packets, and error packets because of network congestion, traffic load balancing, etc
At the receiving ends
Every computer that connects to the Internet has an identifying number (IP address) it consists of
3 numbers and 4 octecs
As much as the HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is concerned, the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is also known
Website adress
uses the power of Motion and Sound. It is a sequence of still images or frames that create the illusion of movement when played in succession.
Audio and Video
