Icing Considerations Flashcards
Ice formation occurs when?
AC subjected to moisture laden air and a temperature where the moisture strikes the AC is 0C or cooler
4 classifications of ice
Trace
Light
Moderate
Severe
Trace
Non hazardous, does not need clearing unless allowed to accumulate for periods of one hour
Light
May cause problems to aircraft that fly through icing zones for over one hour and allowed to build up. Ice protection equipment reccomend to be used periodically to remove ice build up
Moderate
Potentially hazardous to AC even in short encounters, recommended de-icing and anti-icing equipment is used constantly
Severe
Most hazardous, if possible AC should not fly in these conditions, ice protection equipment should most likely fail, diversion from zone is recommended
