What is a crevas?
A crevas is a massive crack in the ice, they can be several metres wide or deep.
What is a Glacier?
A glacier is a huge river of moving ice which moves down the mountain under the force of gravity.
What is an ice age?
An ice age is when temperatures get so low that many areas on land and sea become frozen.
What causes an ice age?
Elliptical orbit of the earth
Tilt of the earth
Changing albedo (reflection of the sun)
What is a pyramidal peak/horn?
It is an angular, sharply pointed mountain peak.
What is an arête?
A thin almost knife like ridge of rock.
What is a cirque/corrie?
A type of bowl where the ice is surrounded by 3 tall pieces of rock.

What is an ice core?
An ice core is a record or ‘time capsule’ of what conditions have been like in the past.
What is moraine?
Moraine is a mass of rocks and sediments left by the moving of a glacier.
What is a drumlin?
A drumlin is a hill caused when a glacier flows past and this causes the loose rock material it flows over to be pushed together causing a hill/point.
What is an ice dammed lake?
When a glacier cuts across a flowing river causing the river to back up.
What is a corrie?
Ice from a glacier builds up in the hollow of a mountain and erodes it further.
What is a U shaped valley?
Where glaciers erode away the ground causing a u shaped valley.
