ICCU Flashcards
Noradrenaline
Increase cardiac output for hypotensive patients - constricts vessels
GTN
For vasodilation to open vessels and reduce BP
Metaraminol
Vasoconstrictor but switch to noradrenaline with central line access
Amiodarone
Used for tachycardia and arythmias to slow conduction down
Uses of magnesium
For head injury- patients levels can drop with concussion, this lowers inflammation, increases cerebral blood flow and repairs neurons.
AF- controls AF in ED patients
Propofol
a short acting anesthetic sedation
Can also be used for long periods of sedation titrated
Side effects: aponea, arrythmias, nausea/vomiting.
fentanyl
A strong opioid similar to morphine but 50-100 times stronger// respiritary depression for sedation.
side effects: respiritary depression / withdrawl.
Hydrocortisone
a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal cortex and used medicinally to treat inflammation resulting from eczema and rheumatism.
Mesalazine
Mesalazine is used to treat ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease and other types of inflammatory bowel disease.
Pipercillin/Tazobactam
For nosocomial pneumonia and bacterial infections in neutropenic patients
Levetiracetam
Treatment of epilepsy
Low potassium
95-108 Hypokalemia Can result from water loss of dihorrea, urination or vomiting. Muscle weakness / twitches/ cramping Heart arrhythmias
High potassium
Monitor urine Monitor for peaked T wave arrythmias Insuline can lower potassium Diuretics Creatnine levels
