Energy
The ability to do work. Example: Sound/Light
Food
Provides energy and building materials for the cells. Examples: Fat, Carb, Protein
Reactant
What you start with in a chemical reaction.
Product
What you end with/make in a chemical reaction
Chemical Reaction
A process where one substance is changed or created into a new substance
Closed System
Molecules are trapped in the system and nothing can be added to the system Mass stays the same
Open System
Molecules are allowed to escape or be added to the system Mass Changes
Independent Variable
Factor being changed in the experiment
Dependent Variable
What we measure or data we collect
Control
Factors that stay the same
Sample Size
Number of observations or variables
Nutrients
A substance that provides nourishment essential for growth and the maintenance of life
Proteins
Essential for the maintenance and building of body tissues and muscles. Made up of small compounds named amino acids.
Carbohydrates
Sugar Molecules your body breaks down into glucose and glucose is used for energy in your body
Fats
greasy substances found in the tissues of plants and animals. Animal fats: meat, milk and eggs
Plant fats: nuts, avocados, olives
