A Doll’s house has a clear basic structure- that of the Well made play. The audience is led to believe that Nora’s dilemma will be happily resolved and that Helmer will perform the miracle she expects. Nora then rejects the expected return to normality.
Ibsen sought a compromise between Naturalism and the well- made play to show life is fraught with difficulties and that life does not easily fall into either form.
