What is urbanization?
Urbanization is the increase in the proportion of people living in towns and cities. Urbanization occurs because people move from rural areas to urban areas. This usually occurs when a country is still developing.
What is migration?
The process of moving from one place to another
Why are some settlements abandoned?
People abandon settlements for various reasons such as employment, education, or occurrence of natural disasters or wars
What are nomads?
Nomads are people who don’t live in one specific location and keep moving from one place to another. These people are not to be confused with migrants.
What are settlements?
Places where people set up homes to live. These may vary in size population, and amount of amenities. Some settlements can be temporary (nomadic settlements), or permanent.
Explain the 3 types of settlements.
The 3 types of settlements are Nucleated, Linear, and Dispersed.
Nucleated - A set of settlements that have a center point and develop from inside to outside. Eg. they may develop around the intersection or 2 or more major roads.
Linear - A set of settlements developed along a route; which includes roads or rivers. It may grow along a major road.
Dispersed - A set of settlements that are not close to eachother. Usually in rural areas such as isolated dwellings or hamlets/
Write the settlement hierarchy from most to least populous settlement. Explain any 2 of the Settlements.

Why do settlements change over time?
Settlement might change for the better or worse. Some may grow in size or reduce. They can be affected my technologies, natural disasters, wars, disease outbreaks or maybe even political changes.

Define SAR and why did Hong Kong become one?
A Special Administrative Region (SAR) is a type of administrative division that exists within a country but has a separate political and economic system from the rest of the country. SARs are often created when a part of a country gains independence from another country.
Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China with its own government and economic system. It was under Britain from 1842 to 1997, due to the Opium Wars.
Explain why Pripyat became a Ghost town
Pripyat - Pripyat was a town that provided residence to people working in the nearby town of Chernobyl to make a nuclear power plant. Everything was okay until 1986 when the nuclear power plane leaked exposing all the residents of nearby towns to the radioactive material inside it. People fled the area and never returned leading Pripyat into becoming a Ghost town.
What are Push and Pull factors? Give examples.
Push factors are factors that are reasons why people move away from a certain place.
Eg - People leave rural areas in favor of urban areas due to lack of jobs and social opportunities.
Pull factors are factors that appeal to a person attracting them to move a particular area. Eg. - Proper health care and transportation.

What is gold rush?
A gold rush is when gold is discovered in an area and many people flee their homes to go live in that area. Gold rush often leads to criminal activity and maybe even no more availability of gold.
