I-V Characteristics Flashcards
1
Q
What’s the ideal voltmeter?
A
- Assumed to have an infinite resistance (so no current flows through them)
2
Q
What’s the ideal ammeter?
A
- Assumed to have no resistance (so will have no potential difference across it)
3
Q
Why does the IV graph for a filament lamp level off at high currents?
A
High current means an increase in temperature, which increases resistance which decreases current
4
Q
What are diodes made from?
A
Semiconductors
5
Q
What is forward bias?
A
The direction that current is allowed to flow
6
Q
What’s the threshold voltage?
A
- The voltage required in the forward direction before the diode starts to conduct electricity
- 0.6V
7
Q
What’s reverse bias?
A
The resistance of the diode is very high in the other direction so little current can flow
