I,O,A Flashcards
I: skin over supraorbital margin (eyebrow skin)
O: Epicranial aponeurosis
A: moves scalp, eyebrows; wrinkles skin of forehead
Frontal belly of occipitofrontalis
I: skin surrounding eyelids
O: media, wall or margin of orbit
A: closes eye; produces winking, blinking, squinting (blink muscle)
Orbicularis oculi
I: skin at inferior corner (angle) of mouth
O: body of mandible
A: draws corners of mouth inferiorly and laterally
Depresser anguli oris
I: skin at superolateral edge of mouth
O: zygomatic bone
A: elevates corner of mouth (smile muscle)
Zygomaticus major
I: ramus (lateral surface) and Angle of mandible
O: zygomatic arch
A: elevates and protracts mandible; prime mover of Jaw closure
Masseter
I: Mastoid process
O: manubrium and sternal end of clavicle
A: unilateral action: lateral flexion, rotation of head to opposite side. Bilateral action: flexes neck
Sternocieldomastoid
I: occipital bone and mastoid process of temporal bone
O: Ligamentum nuchae and spinous processes of c7-t3
A: unilateral action: turns head to same side. Bilateral action: extends head/neck
Splenius capitis
A: contraction causes flattening of diaphragm (moves inferiorly), and thus expansion of thoracic cavity; increases pressure in abdominoplevic cavity
Diaphragm
I: linea alba by a broad aponeurosis; some to iliac crest
O: external and inferior borders of the inferior 8 ribs
A: unilateral action: lateral flexion of vertebral column; rotation of vertebral column to the opposite side. Bilateral action: flexes vertebral column and compresses abdominal wall; used in forced exhalation
External oblique
I: xiphoid process of sternum; inferior surfaces of ribs 5-7
O: superior surface of pubis near symphysis
A: flexes vertebral column; compresses abdominal wall; used in forced exhalation
Rectus abdominis
I: clavicle; acromion process and spine of scapula
O: occipital bone (superior nuchal line); ligamentum nuchae; spinous processes of c7-t12
A: superior fibers: elevate and superiorly rotate scapula. Middle fibers: retract scapula. Inferior fibers: depress scapula.
Trapezius
I: intertubecular sulcus of humerus
O: spinous processes of t7-t12; ribs 8-12; iliac crest; thoracolumbar fascia
A: agonist of arm extension; also adducts and medially rotates arm (“swimmers muscle”)
Latissimus dorsi
I: deltoid tuberosity of humerus
O: acrominal end of clavicle; acromion and spine of scapula
A: anterior fibers: flex and medially rotate arm. Middle fibers: agonist of arm abduction.
Posterior fibers: extend and laterally rotate arm
Deltoid
I: lateral part of intertubecular sulcus of humerus
O: medial clavicle; costal cartilages of ribs 2-6; body of sternum
A: agonist of arm flexion; also adducts and medially rotates arm. Also horizontal adduction of arm
Pectoralis major
I: radial tuberosity and bicipital aponeurosis
O: long head: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula. short head: coracoid process of scapula
A: flexes forearm, powerful supinator of forearm. Long head flexes arm
Bicep brachii
