Hypothesis test Flashcards
hypothesis
A clear statement of what you think your experiment will show.
Hypothesis null or alternative
Null: the outcome will not be X
Alternative: the outcome will be X
Hypothesis test
Used for:
The means of samples X and Y are different.
The variances of samples X and Y are different.
There is a relationship between variables A and B.
The data are normally distributed.
Do I accept H0 or H1?
Different test depending if they’re parametric or non parametric (watch presentation)
P-value
Generally if there is less than a 5% chance you would have obtained these data when H0 is true, we reject H0 and accept H1.
p<0.05 reject H0
And vice versa:
Generally if there is less than a 5% chance that these
data would have been obtained if H0 is true, we reject H0 and accept H
Resumen
1. Using your data, calculate a test statistic Look at the distribution for your test statistic when H0 is true What is the probability of obtaining a test statistic of that value when H0 is true?
