What is a hypothesis?
A tentative prediction or explanation of the expected relationship between two or more variables under study.
What makes a good hypothesis?
- Follows from research question.
- Clear and simple.
- Includes both the dependent and independent variables.
- Must be testable.
- Indicates the proposed outcome for the study.
Two types of hypothesis?
Null and Alternative
What is a null hypothesis?
a statement of the status quo, and argues that there is no difference or no effect
What is alternative hypothesis?
a statement which some difference or effect is expected
