Hypotheses Flashcards
What is a one-tailed hypothesis?
States the direction in which the study will take.
What is a two tailed hypothesis?
A hypothesis that states the study could go in any direction.
What is a null hypothesis?
States the IV will have no effect.
What must be done when drafting a hypothesis?
Should be fully operationalised. e.g. ‘number of seconds taken to run 100m’ rather than ‘time taken to run the distance’,
What is a type II error?
The researcher erroneously accepts the null hypothesis when the experimental hypothesis should have been accepted.
What is a type I error?
The researcher erroneously accepts the experimental hypothesis when the null should have been accepted.
