What is a hypospadia?
A
- = birth defect of the urethra in the male where the urinary opening is not at the usual location on the head of the penis

Features/appearance of hypospadia
A
- The opening of the urethra (where the urine comes from) is not at the end of the penis but is somewhere else along the penis
- Dorsal hood: foreskin on back of penis
- Chordee: downward bending of penis
- There is not a straight stream of urine.

Mx of hypospadia
A
- Early surgical correction - optimal repair before 2 years of age, six to 18 months of age
- Correction of location of urethra and chordee (to straighten penis to allow later successful sexual function)
