What are some issues that come with insulin therapy?

- Immune response: resistance to insulin mostly animal – antibodies
- Lipohypertrophy at injection site

A
Less than 4mmol/l

What are some of the casues of Hypoglycaemia?
A
◼ Incorrect dosing of insulin at night time
◼ Delayed/missed meals
◼ Alcohol
◼ More exercise than usual
◼ Stress

What are the symtptoms of mild Hypoglycaemia?
A
- Palpitations, tremor, sweating —-> [ NOT PRESENT IF ON B BLOCKERS]
- blurred vision
- fatigue

What are symptoms of moderate hypoglycaemia?
A
- Behaviour change: Restlessness,
- Irritability drowsiness
- slurred speech

What are symptoms of severe hypoglycaemia?
A
- Very agitated/aggressive,
- unresponsive,
- seizures
- coma

What can be used to treat hypoglycaemia ?
A
15-20g rapidly absorbed sugar

After snack/next meal of sustained carbohydrate
1.5-2 tubes of GlucoGel
◼ Severe: im glucagon (1mg) or iv glucose
(150ml of 10% over 10-15mins)
