Causes

A
  • Fluid loss (diarrhoea, vomiting, burns)
  • Iatrogenic (too much IV saline)
  • Diabetes insipidus

Management

A
  • Slow infusion of 5% dectrose or 0.9% sodium chloride
  • Monitor electrolytes regularly
  • Aim for a decrease of no more than 10mmol/l per 24 hours
