Investigations

A

Bloods - to establish what lipids are raised (eg, hypertriglyceridaemia or hypercholerterolaemia)

  • Creatinine Kinase - after starting statin
  • LFTs - to look for FLD and for statin derrangement

Management:

A

Lifestyle - reduce BMI, reduce saturated fats, increase fruit and vegetables and increase exercise

Medications:

  1. Statins (40mg simvastatin) reduces cholesterol synthesis in the liver
  2. Fibrates (bezafibrate - useful in mixed hyperlipidaemia and hypertrigluceridemia) or cholerterol absoprtion inhibitors (eg. ezetimibe)
