When should familial hypercholesterolaemia be considered?

A

➊ Lipids packaged with proteins, allowing it to be transported around the body
→ • Chylomicrons and VLDL - mainly TGs
• LDL - mainly cholesterol
• HDL - Mainly phospholipids

➋ • Inherited - Familial Hypercholesterolaemia
• Secondary - DM, Hypothyroidism, Nephrotic syndrome, Drugs

➌ • Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and TGs
• Exclude secondary causes - HbA1c, TFT, U&E, LFT

➍ Total cholesterol > 7.5 mmol/L
