Types of Hygienic Care:
Early Morning Care
Morning Care
Afternoon Care
Evening Care
PRN Care
Care provided to clients upon awakening in preparation for breakfast or diagnostic procedure or surgery
Early Morning Care
Hygienic care done after breakfast
Morning Care
- Care done after activities in the morning
Afternoon Care
- Hygienic care done before bedtime to relax and promote sleep
Evening Care
- Provided as required by the client
PRN Care
o removes accumulated oil, perspiration, dead skin cells, and some bacteria.
Bathing
The Purposes of Bathing:
- To eliminate odor
- To stimulate circulation
- To provide mild exercise
- To refresh and relax the patient
- To remove secretions, excretions, dirt and oil from skin
Two Major Types of Bath
Cleaning Bath
Therapeutic Bath
Given chiefly for hygiene purposes
Cleaning Bath
Given for physical effects, such as to soothe irritated skin or to treat an area
The medications may be placed in the water
Generally taken in a tub one-third or one-half full
The patient remains in the bath for a designated time (often 20-30 minutes)
If certain body parts are to be treated (back, chest, arms), these areas are immersed in the solution
Therapeutic Bath
Type of Cleaning Bath:
The entire body of a totally dependent patient is washed
Complete Bed Bath
Type of Cleaning Bath:
Bathing only body parts that would cause discomfort if left un-bathed
For dependent clients in need for only partial hygiene, self-sufficient bed ridden clients who are unable to reach all body parts
Done by the HCP or the patient
Partial Bed Bath
Type of Cleaning Bath:
Clients confined on bed bathe themselves
The client performs the bath except on areas needing assistance from the HCP (back &feet)
Self-help Bed Bath
Type of Cleaning Bath:
He client is immersed into a tub or water
For more thorough washing and rinsing than bed bath
May require the HCP’s assistance
Tub Bath
Type of Cleaning Bath:
The client sits or stands under continuous stream of water
More thorough cleansing than bed bath
Requires minimal assistance
Shower
Type of Cleaning Bath:
The use of a commercially prepared product that contains 10-12 presoaked disposable washcloths that contain no-rinse cleanser solution
Bag Bath
Type of Therapeutic Bath:
Cleanses and reduces inflammatory or perineal and anal areas of a client who has undergone rectal or perineal surgery or childbirth who has local irritation from hemorrhoids or fissures
Sitz Bath
Type of Therapeutic Bath:
Done to lower body temperature
Tepid Sponge or Cooling Bath
Type of Therapeutic Bath:
Aids in the relief of skin irritation and creates an antibacterial and drying effect
