Hyena Flashcards
“Golden flanks”
This shows us that the hyena sees himself as being second in the food chain and knows himself that the lion is higher ranked than him.
“I’m a good match for a dead lion’
This shows us that the hyena knows that he would always be beaten by a lion and for that reason he would need to match a dead non moving lion.
” I have a rough coat like Africa”
This is a simile. Shows that the hyena is arrogant and thinks highly of himself as he is comparing himself to a large continent. Also “rough” had connotations of rugged and powerful and often threatful.
” I eat the dead”
Is a short sentence at the end of the stanza meaning that the intimidating thought lingers in the readers mind.
“Crowd of fangs”
Is intimidating as crowd suggests that there are a lot of them which builds up tension and shows the reader how powerful the hyena is.
“I am waiting for you”
Waiting to eat us. Tries to scare of readers from the very start.
