Hydrosphere Flashcards
What is a drainage basin?
Where water is transfered in a continuous cycle from the sea, atmosphere and back to sea
How are clouds formed?
When isolation in ocean seas and rivers cause evaporation, as it rises it cools and turns to clouds
What is Advection?
When clouds move inland
What is Precipitation?
Water droplets in the sky increase in size until they fall
What is Surface Runoff
When rainfall flows downhill due to gravity and can take the form of rivers and streams
What is Groundwater Flow
Rain percolates into the soil and flows downhill due to gravity
What is Interception?
When some groundflow and though-flow is absorbed by leaves and vegetation
What is Evapotranspiration?
Is evaporation from plants that draw water from the soil
Where is a V Shaped valleys commonly found?
Upper-course of a river
How does Vertical Erosion Happen
Due to steep gradient flows fast and most energy spent eroding the river bed
What is an example of a Waterfall?
Falloch Falls
Where are waterfalls typically found?
Upper Course of a River
Where are Meanders typically found?
Middle and upper course of a river
