what is hydronephrosis
A
swelling of the renal pelvis and calyces due to obstruction of the urinary tract leading to back pressure in the kidneys

what are the possible causes of hydronephrosis
A
stuff that can block the urinary tract
kidney stones
BPH
pregnancy
cancer of bladder/kidney/cervix/ovary

how does hydronephrosis present
A
flank, abdomen or groin pain (vague location)
dysuria (pain)
incontinence of urine
urgency and frequency
nausea
fever
mass in the kidney area

how do you investigate hydronephrosis
A
1st= USS
try and find cause:
- Blood tests to check for infection
- Urine tests to check for stones

how do you treat hydronephrosis
A
- treat underlying cause
- drainage
- ?stent
