Hydrology Flashcards
How is water found on the moon
- As Ice: in the South pole where there is little sunlight
- as Diffuse molecules: has been detected in sunny areas by the SOFIA telescope
Why is there no liquid water on the moon
because avg temperature is above boiling so any water that there may have been has be evaporated.
How did water form in the universe
H, He, Li formed after the big bang
O2 formed in the centre of stars via FUSION
when stars collapse, O and H are released and then combine to create water.
Where did water on Earth Come From?
Carbonaceous Chondrites(asteroids/meteorites)
Earths Core
It is not known for sure where water originated on earth
Hydrology
scientific study of movement, distribution and management of water on earth and other planets
is also concerned with the impact by humans on water quality and management problems
GlacioHydraulic supercooling
how water at the base of glaciers remains in liquid form at Temps below its freezing point in response to the geometry of water flow and subglacial pressure.
Why is Sand a good aquifer
It can hold large amounts of water and can transmit flow more freely
why is Clay a bad aquifer? What is it called instead?
What is an Aquifer?
How is ground water depletion measured?
Surface Water
What is Runoff?
What is Overland Flow?
What is a stream?
What is the difference between Runoff and Overland Flow?
