Hydrological Cycle Flashcards
Evaporation
Transfer and change of water from the ground into water vapour ( an invisible gas) in the air.
Transpiration
Transfer and change of water from plants into water vapour in the air.
Condensation
Water vapour changes back into a liquid. Forms small droplets which are visible as clouds.
Precipitation
Transfer of water from the air to land. Water can fall to earth as rain, snow, hail or sleet.
Surface run-off (ground)
Transfer of water back to the sea over the grounds surfaces.
Ground water flow (rock)
Transfer of water through rocks back to the sea.
Ground water store
Water in the ground in PERMEABLE rocks.
Through flow (soil)
Transfer of water through the soil BACK into the sea.
Permeable rock
A rock that allows water to pass through it. ( limestone )
PERMEABLE
Pass through it
POROUS
Soaks water up
Pours rock
Rocks that soak water up, a rock with small air spaces. (chalk)
Impermeable rock
Soil or rock that does not allow water to pass through it. ( clay )
Infiltration (surface>soil)
Movement of water from the ground into the soil.
Percolation (soil>rocks)
Movement of water out of the soil into the rocks.
