Hydrological Cycle Flashcards
1
Q
How do the seasons affect the hydrological cycle?
A
The global pattern of precipitation is associated with atmospheric circulation and pressure systems. Tropical regions have the largest amounts of precipitation.
2
Q
How does climate change affect the hydrological cycle?
A
Precipitation rates have fallen 18% over winter. Decreased rainfall means less surface runoff. Stream flows in major rivers have declined by 55% since the mid 1970’s.
3
Q
How does the time of day affect the hydrological cycle?
A
As air cools at night, humidity tends to rise, leading to more fog and rainfall during the morning. As the ground heats, air is pushed upwards creating conventional currents.
