Hydrological Cycle Flashcards
Evaporation
The process by which liquid, such as water, changes to water vapour when it is warmed
Condensation
The process by which water vapour changes to a liquid (rain) or a solid (snow) when cooled.
Evaporation
The process by which liquid, such as water, changes to water vapour when it is warmed.
Groundwater
Water stored in rocks following percolation.
Groundwater flow
The movement of water through porous rocks.
Infiltration
Movement (transfer) of water into the soil from the surface.
Interception
When plants prevent rainfall reaching the ground.
Percolation
Movement (transfer) of water into underlying rocks.
The deposition of moisture usually from clouds. It includes rain, hail, snow, sleet, dew, frost and fog.
Precipitation
When the soil is full of moisture.
Saturation
Water flowing across the surface of the ground and into rivers.
Surface run-off
The flow of water down a slope through the soil.
Throughflow
The process by which water from plants changes into water vapour.
Transpiration
The level at which saturation occurs in the ground or soil.
