Hydraulics Flashcards
What ignited and started the fire when it came into contact with the hot brakes?
FLUID (mixed 5606 and 83232) LEAKS ONTO HOT BRAKE PARTS
Was it the correct fluid for the brake lines?
No, The approved hydraulic fluid for the brake system is MIL-H-83282.
How do you determine the correct fluid for use in the brake lines?
Flashpoint of the fluid?
Why were the brakes so hot?
left brake seized or partially on during take-off roll
What are some of the symptoms of seized brakes in the operation of the aircraft?
hydraulic problems, the aircraft was pulling to the left of the runway centerline
What is the flash point of a fluid?
the minimum temperature at which a liquid forms a vapour above its surface in sufficient concentration that it can be ignited.
What was the Propair maintenance department doing with the two types of fluid?
they were mixing MIL-H- 5606 and MIL-H-832232 almost at will (same look, feel, smell, viscosity and the SAME RED COLOUR)
What is the worst possible outcome of mixing fluid types?
ACCIDENT
What are the two types of hydraulic reservoirs?
Bleed Air Type & Bootstrap type
how should the aircraft be configured when you are servicing a reservoir?
hydraulic pumps turned off, be sure to bleed off system header pressure prior to disconnecting, always lock out (safety) the system before starting any work
What do you do before disconnecting and after reconnecting a line with both types of reservoirs?
header pressure must always be released prior to disconnecting a line and recharged prior to turning on a pump
the necessary steps when charging an accumulator
bleed off all aircraft hydraulic system pressure
make sure that you’re using the correct gas
always ensure all the valves are closed prior to starting
verify that you are using the correct regulator for the task
ensure that the gauge calibration stickers are current prior to use
