Hydraulics Flashcards
Six Factors Needed to Determine Engine Pressure:
• Nozzle pressure• Amount of hose in hoselay• Size of hose• Nozzle tip and size• Appliances• Elevation differential
Three Ways to Reduce Friction Loss:
• Reduce nozzle pressure• Reduce nozzle/tip size• Lay a parallel line or increase hose dia.
Water Tender Estimations:
• Total supply time = fill/empty time + round trip travel time• 15 minutes to fill/empty• 2 minutes per mile on paved road• 4 minutes per mile on unpaved road• Determine tender capacity in gallons• Divide fire ground capacity by one tender capacity (A)• Divide total supply time by how long you can flow (B)• A x B = # of tenders to supply continuous flow
Rectangular volume =
l x w x h (in feet) x 7.5 gallons per cubic foot
Cylindrical volume =
dia^2 x H x .7854 x 7.5 gallons per cubic foot
EP =
NP + FL + A +/- H
how much water in a length of hose….
dia^2 x .7854 x L (in inches) divided by 231 cu. in per gallon
