Hydraulic Systems Principles Flashcards
What are two types of Hydraulic Fluid?
1) Synthetic Hydraulic Fluid
2) Mineral Hydraulic Fluid
Formula for Pressure?
Pressure = Force / Area
What are the properties for an ideal hydraulic fluid?
1) Low viscosity
2) Resists corrosion
3) Low Flammability
4) High Flashpoint
Why is hydraulic fluid dangerous?
It is corrosive, and irritates eyes and skin.
Why are hydraulic systems better than mechanical systems?
They can deliver large amounts of force with little effort.
They are also lighter, and so little energy is lost in transmitting power.
What are non-return valves?
They prevent back flow, and provide filters to clean the fluid.
What are two types of Hydraulic Systems?
1) Active System - uses a pressure pump.
2) Passive System - uses human effort.
What PSI do aircrafts use?
2000/3000 psi.
