Dresser Low pressure hydrant:
- Same as smith except in appearance
- The dresser hydrant will provide 10% to 15%
greater discharge than the smith hydrant
Smith Low Pressure Hydrant:
- Black barrel with silver bonnet
- Two outlets, 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 inch
- Two valves, main and drain
- Number on the barrel indicates size of main
- White line under the number indicates hydrant
is on a dead end main ( generally small cause
fed from one direction)
Chapman and Eddy Hydrants:
- Either two 2 1/2 inch outlets or one 2 1/2 inch
outlet and one 4 1/2 inch outlet - Eddy found in areas supplied by Jamaica
water supply - Opens opposite direction of smith & dresser
- Hydrants barrels will be painted black and open in the same direction (clockwise) as other city hydrants.
High Pressure Hydrants:
- Being removed and should be avoided
35 foot Soft Connection:
- Yellow synthetic hose with 4 1/2 inch butts.
- Provides largest flows of the connections
- Shall ONLY be used as a supply line from a hydrant
10 foot small connection:
- 3 1/2 inch hose (3 inch butts)
- Provied the most flexibility in connections but
provides the LEAST water flow - Only be used as supply line from a hydrant
50 foot length of 3 1/2 inch hose:
- Provides most flexibility but the least water flow
10 foot hard suction:
- 4 1/2 in hose with 4 1/2 inch butts
- Must be used for drafting, rarely for hydrants
Can you strike the custodian wrench (i.e axe
Hammer)?
NEVER
White Hydrant Disc:
- Unserviceable Hydrant AND 3 inch Siamese of
out of service auxiliary fire protection systems
Yellow Hydrant Disc:
- Frozen Hydrant
Blue Hydrant Disc:
- For placement on 3 inch Siamese of auxiliary fire protection system to indicate a system is not functioning as a fully automatic system and/or a portion of a system is such that it will operate effectively when supplied
If 2 1/2 inch hydrant cap is missing and No apparatus cap or spare cap can be used, how else can you plug the 2 1/2 inch outlet?
T-Bolt
Yellowe Hydrants on parkways or expressway:
Must be turned on using a curb valve (would be big hazard if opened illegally)
Red Air cock Hydrants:
Hydrants on 30 inch diameter or greater main in strategic locations ( highs and lows)
